21st Century Classroom Learning Initiative

Cozad Community Schools is pleased to announce our 21st Century Classroom Learning Initiative.  The district technology team, in cooperation with administrators, teachers and students, have come together to form a vision and an action plan to help us move our classrooms, instruction, and student engagement into the 21st century!

Recent and rapid developments in mobile devices, cloud computing, and affordable bandwidth are combining to open instructional and learning avenues that have never before been possible in primary and secondary schools.  Our students will soon be able to access resources, cooperate and collaborate with other students and teachers, and create quality content that will be theirs for the rest of their lives!

To take advantage of these exciting opportunities, we have formulated a program that we call the 21st Century Classroom Learning Initiative.  While all of our schools are involved in the initiative, the strategies are different at each building.  For details at each level, please follow the links below:

High School - 1:1 student mobile devices, cloud computing, and structured staff development.

Middle School - Subject area mobile device carts in social studies and science, and a gradual transition to cloud computing and mobile devices for every student.

Elementary grades 3-5 - Mobile device carts for every grade level. iPod cases are shared at each grade level 1-5. Two classes (2nd grade and 5th grade) have iPad cart for their classroom.

Elementary grades 1-2 - In-room mobile device learning centers.

Early Education - Continued focus on fundamentals with mobile device supplements.

Overall Vision Statement: Cozad Community Schools will create a learning environment in which students are provided with and use technology and communication tools to:

  • Encourage and facilitate life-long learning
  • Foster creativity, collaboration and communication among students, faculty and staff
  • Provide media-rich environments for student learning
  • Provide learning opportunities for students outside of the classroom and extending beyond the school day
  • Provide safe, secure access to on-line resources and communication tools

we rob our children of tomorrow." John Dewey

eBackpack

Our school has purchased a subscription to an online classroom product, eBackpack. eBackpack makes it easier to move files between the teacher and student and lets the student turn in homework electronically. The teachers can then review the work and send back to the student electronically. With the implementation of iPads into the high school and middle school, this will make the transfer of documents easier for both students and teaachers.

Student Tech Team--Pilot Program
Eight CHS students were selected to serve as a member of our pilot program for our 21st Century Learning Initiative. To help us, each of these students were issued a school owned iPad to help us with several aspects of the program. They will be actively involved in planning, forming student policies, instructing other students and staff, and providing feed back to our Technology Team.
